MetaMask integrates VietQR for direct bank-to-wallet funding in Vietnam
Banxa's VietQR support slashes transaction fees from 7% to potentially zero, tapping into Vietnam's 15 million daily QR transfers
Vietnamese crypto users just got a significantly cheaper on-ramp. MetaMask wallets can now be funded directly through VietQR, the country’s dominant QR payment standard, via payment processor Banxa. In a market where card-based crypto purchases typically cost around 7% in fees, this is the kind of infrastructure upgrade that actually moves the needle.
The integration leverages NAPAS, Vietnam’s national payment network, which already processes roughly 15 million transfers daily. Instead of pulling out a credit card and eating a painful surcharge, Vietnamese users can now buy crypto the same way they pay for coffee or split a dinner tab.
The fee math that matters
Consider someone putting $1,000 into their MetaMask wallet through a traditional card payment. That’s $70 gone before a single trade happens.
During a promotional period running from July 20 to August 20, 2026, select wallets like Bitget are offering 0% fees on VietQR-funded transactions. After that window closes, the estimated fee settles around 3%. Still less than half of what card payments cost.
That difference compounds quickly for active traders and regular buyers. A user making $500 in monthly crypto purchases would save roughly $240 annually at the 3% rate compared to cards.
Banxa operates across more than 180 countries and holds over 45 licenses globally.
Vietnam’s crypto market is enormous, and growing fast
According to 2025 Chainalysis data, Vietnam ranks fourth globally in cryptocurrency adoption. The country is home to an estimated 17 to 20 million crypto users, a staggering number for a nation of roughly 100 million people.
The market’s total crypto valuation hit $220 billion in 2025. On-chain volume grew 55% year-over-year from July 2024 to June 2025.
VietQR already enjoys an 85% acceptance rate among merchants. Millions of Vietnamese consumers use QR-based payments as their default transaction method. The VietQR integration means a user who scans QR codes dozens of times per week for everyday purchases can now use the exact same motion to fund a crypto wallet.
What this means for the broader Southeast Asian crypto market
Banxa has indicated the VietQR feature extends across its platform to eligible merchants and partners. Wallet providers that move quickly to integrate local payment methods in high-adoption markets will have a meaningful edge in user acquisition.
Vietnam was already growing at 55% annually in on-chain volume. The question now is whether the fee reduction from 7% to 3%, or temporarily 0%, translates into proportional growth in new users and transaction volume.
