Metaplanet ranks 33rd among Japanese equities by trading value
The Tokyo-listed Bitcoin treasury company is now trading alongside Japan's biggest blue chips by daily volume, outpacing household names on peak days.
A company that most investors had never heard of two years ago is now consistently appearing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s leaderboard for daily trading value. Metaplanet, the Japanese firm that has bet its corporate identity on accumulating Bitcoin, recently ranked 33rd among roughly 4,000 Japanese equities by value traded.
From obscurity to the top 1%
Metaplanet, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under ticker 3350, has transformed itself into what is essentially a Bitcoin holding vehicle for public market investors in Japan. That strategic pivot, which accelerated through 2024, has turned the stock into one of the most actively traded names in the country.
On standout trading days, Metaplanet has ranked as high as 29th by value traded. During a particularly active session in November 2024, the stock saw roughly ¥21.9 billion (approximately $142 million) change hands in a single day.
The company has frequently led the TSE Standard Market in trading volume and value, sometimes generating more daily turnover than Toyota and Sony. In June 2026, Metaplanet’s total monthly trading volume hit ¥1.87 trillion.
As of recent trading, shares hover between ¥300 and ¥350, putting the company’s market capitalization somewhere in the range of ¥380 billion to ¥450 billion. The stock’s multi-year returns at one point exceeded 1,000%.

Japan’s biggest corporate Bitcoin stash
The company now holds an estimated 35,000 to 43,000 BTC, making it the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury holder in Japan.
CEO Simon Gerovich has been vocal about the company’s strategy and its market achievements, regularly highlighting trading milestones through public communications. The approach has resonated with both retail and institutional investors looking for indirect Bitcoin exposure within Japan’s regulated securities market.
Japanese investors can buy Metaplanet shares through standard brokerage accounts, including tax-advantaged structures like NISA (Japan’s equivalent of a Roth IRA). Buying actual Bitcoin in Japan involves separate exchanges, different tax treatment, and a different regulatory framework. Metaplanet essentially packages Bitcoin exposure in an equity wrapper that slots neatly into the existing financial system.
