Missing figures stay unavailable. Forward P/E requires a dated source. Annual revenue, revenue growth, net income and margin come from each company's own 10-K, in US dollars, and each row shows that fiscal year. Revenue growth compares the fiscal year with the prior year stated in the same 10-K. Net income is the full year amount attributable to the company, or available to common stockholders where the filing states only that, or consolidated net income. Each row names its basis. Trailing P/E reads "Not meaningful" when the dated trailing diluted EPS is a loss or zero. An operating margin appears only when the filing states both the operating income and the revenue for the same year.

Sources: SEC filings, Gloria daily closes and CoinGecko. Oldest record refresh: Oct 30, 2026, 9:51 AM EDT. Refresh is not a price or filing date. Each row shows its price date and its annual fiscal period. Peers use industry code and company size, or editorial selection. Market cap multiplies that row price by the company share total the latest SEC filing states for every share class together. Trailing P/E divides it by trailing diluted earnings from SEC filings. Rolled earnings per share are approximate because share counts can change between periods. Both appear only when the SEC data carries its date, so they are estimates at one price date, not synchronized filing valuations. Not investment advice.

Wall Street’s consensus on equities has been relentlessly optimistic for most of 2026. Wells Fargo just broke from the pack.

The firm’s strategist Ohsung Kwon revised the bank’s year-end 2026 S&P 500 target down to 7,700 from 7,950 on September 14, making Wells Fargo one of the first major institutions to trim its forecast at a moment when several peers are still projecting the index will push past 8,000.

With the S&P 500 sitting around 7,620 at the time of the revision, the new target implies a gain of roughly 1% from current levels.

Why Wells Fargo is getting cautious

Kwon’s concern is not simply that stocks are expensive, though they are. The deeper worry is structural: equity allocations across portfolios have climbed to 72%, the highest reading since 1969.

To put that number in context, it means the average portfolio is carrying more stock exposure right now than at almost any point in the last five decades. Wells Fargo believes a more appropriate allocation given current conditions is closer to 60%, which implies a lot of potential selling pressure sitting latent in the market.

Compounding the problem is the yield environment. Ten-year Treasury yields are approaching 19-year highs, and when risk-free rates rise to levels that actually compete with equity returns, the math on owning stocks gets harder to justify.

The firm estimates a 5% to 10% pullback is plausible, which would put the index somewhere between 7,239 and 6,858. The index is up 11.3% year-to-date through mid-September 2026, so a correction of that magnitude would claw back a meaningful chunk of the year’s gains without erasing them entirely.

Wells Fargo is not alone in pulling back

The revision did not arrive in a vacuum. BofA Global Research also updated its S&P 500 target to 7,400 on the same day, September 14, citing a seasonally weak period for equities as part of its reasoning.

Sector rotation takes center stage

Alongside the headline target cut, Wells Fargo made significant moves at the sector level that tell a story of their own.

Technology was downgraded to equal weight from overweight. The firm is actually forecasting continued investment in AI infrastructure and data centers. The issue is more about where within tech the money flows next.

Wells Fargo’s preference now tilts toward software companies over semiconductor manufacturers. The logic is that software firms sit downstream from the hardware buildout and benefit from AI adoption without carrying the same capital intensity and inventory cycle risk that chip companies face.

Healthcare, meanwhile, got an upgrade to overweight. The sector tends to perform defensively when economic conditions get choppy, which is consistent with the broader cautious posture Wells Fargo is adopting. Healthcare also carries lower sensitivity to interest rate movements than growth-heavy technology names.

On the earnings side, Wells Fargo actually raised its EPS estimates, bumping 2027 projections to $425 and 2028 projections to $460. That matters because it means the target cut is not a signal that the firm thinks corporate profitability is about to fall off a cliff. The concern is about valuation, not fundamentals. Stocks can get cheaper even as earnings grow if the multiple investors are willing to pay contracts.
