Akash Network proposal to leave Cosmos for Solana shows ~98% support, AKT to become SPL token

Governance Proposal #346 sets up a one-way, 1:1 token migration and a later vote on moving the marketplace itself

Akash Network has passed a governance proposal to pack up its sovereign Cosmos chain and move to Solana, with AKT set to relaunch as a native SPL token.

Early tallies on Governance Proposal #346 showed roughly 98% support.

The vote matters because it isn’t a bridge or a side deployment. Akash is planning to retire its own chain entirely, and token holders are being told up front that there’s no road back.

How the migration is supposed to work

The Akash core team introduced Proposal #346 on October 26, 2026, on its Cosmos-based akashnet-2 chain. The voting window ran from October 26 to November 2, 2026.

AKT will convert to an SPL token at a 1:1 rate, with total supply unchanged and 6 decimal places preserved.

The conversion itself happens through a one-way portal. That portal is expected to stay open for two years, giving slower-moving holders a generous runway to make the switch.

The portal won’t open right away, though. Token and portal audits are anticipated to take about 2-3 weeks after the proposal passes, and the migration follows once those are done.

Once AKT crosses to Solana, the proposal offers no path to reverse it.

The marketplace moves later, and separately

Moving the token is one decision; moving Akash’s actual marketplace is another, and it requires its own governance vote.

That second vote is slated to come after additional audits and rehearsals.

When the marketplace cutover does happen, existing workloads on the old chain are expected to keep running for 90 days. After that window, the old chain is set to halt.

Total network fees for the marketplace are estimated at about 0.075 SOL per day.

Median transaction fees on Solana are projected at around $0.001.

A move that was a long time coming

Akash first signaled its intent to deprecate its sovereign chain back in October 2025.

From there, the project ran an open request for proposals beginning in December 2025, evaluating where it should land. That process wrapped up in August 2026, with Solana coming out on top.

Part of the rationale is about neighbors. Solana’s ecosystem hosts a concentration of DePIN projects, short for decentralized physical infrastructure networks, which use tokens to coordinate real-world resources.

What this means for AKT holders and the DePIN sector

For AKT holders, once audits clear and the portal opens, tokens will need to be migrated, and the two-year window gives plenty of time without making it optional forever.

The market case, according to the research findings on the move, is that a transition to Solana could tap into that chain’s liquidity and active user base, which could enhance demand for AKT as part of a larger ecosystem.

The biggest open question is the marketplace cutover. The token migration is mostly a matter of audited plumbing, while the marketplace move depends on a future vote, more audits and successful rehearsals. The 90-day overlap for existing workloads is the safety net.
