FC Barcelona to face Atlético Madrid in Spanish Super Cup semi-final

FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid will square off in the semi-final of the 2027 Spanish Super Cup, with the match set for February 2 at Istanbul’s Chobani Stadium Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex. The venue, which holds approximately 48,000 to 50,000 spectators, will host what promises to be one of the more compelling fixtures in recent Supercopa history.

Istanbul replaces Jeddah as the tournament’s home

The Spanish Super Cup had become synonymous with Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where it was held in previous editions. This year, the tournament relocates to Istanbul, a shift confirmed by the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) on September 17, 2026.

Three venues across Istanbul will share duties for the tournament, which runs from February 2 through February 6. The second semi-final, featuring Real Sociedad against Real Madrid, takes place on February 3 at the Tüpraş Stadium. The final is scheduled for February 6 at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex, also known as RAMS Park. All three matches kick off at 20:00 CET, keeping the schedule uniform.

The format and what’s at stake

The Spanish Super Cup’s current format features four teams in a knockout bracket: two semi-finals followed by a final. The competition typically invites the top two finishers from La Liga and the two Copa del Rey finalists. Barcelona enters the tournament as a top seed, reflecting strong recent form in domestic competitions.

This format, introduced in the 2019-20 season alongside the move to Saudi Arabia, replaced the previous two-legged final between the league champion and the Copa del Rey winner.

The winner of Barcelona vs. Atlético will face either Real Sociedad or Real Madrid in the February 6 final.
