Coinbase rebrands Base App as Coinbase Wallet
The change reflects Coinbase's goal of building an "everything exchange" that gives users a single platform to access and trade digital assets across multiple networks.
Coinbase is bringing back the Coinbase Wallet name for its Base App as it seeks to give more users access to the growing tokenization market.
The move, announced on Sept. 10, comes more than a year after Coinbase turned its Wallet app into the Base App, which brought together trading, payments, messaging, social features, content and mini apps for consumer users. The firm aimed to turn Base from an Ethereum layer 2 network into a consumer-facing onchain ecosystem.
The company said the rebranded app will keep the strongest features of the Base App while returning to the Coinbase Wallet name that users already recognize.
Coinbase said the rebrand comes as tokenization creates a growing number of onchain assets and markets, with real-world asset tokenization up more than 200 times year-over-year.

Growth is creating more opportunities for users to access onchain assets, but many still lack a direct way to participate, the company added, noting that returning to the Coinbase Wallet name better represents the app’s role as a multi-network trading platform that allows users to download, access onchain markets and start trading across borders within minutes.
