New captain Twistzz navigates leadership transition as FaZe focuses squarely on competitive CS2, leaving its controversial crypto past behind
FaZe Clan is in the middle of a leadership reset. Finn “karrigan” Andersen, the in-game leader who guided the organization to its first Major title, departed in April 2026 after five years with the team. His replacement, Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken, has stepped into the captain role and is now steering the roster through a transition from online play to upcoming LAN events.
A messy handoff at the top
Twistzz didn’t sugarcoat the transition. He described karrigan’s departure as sudden, saying the situation was “not handled the best way.”
As of June 2026, Twistzz took a holiday in Japan and stepped away from practicing CS2 temporarily, ahead of the grind of LAN competition.
FaZe’s crypto baggage
FaZe Clan previously promoted a token called MLG Coin. It reached a market cap somewhere between $150 million and $200 million before collapsing spectacularly. The fallout was severe enough to trigger the resignation of FaZe’s CEO at the time amid fraud allegations.

Then came the “Save the Kids” incident in 2021. Multiple FaZe members promoted a token that was marketed as a charitable endeavor. The backlash resulted in suspensions and outright expulsions from the organization.
Coverage around Twistzz’s recent break explicitly noted the absence of any cryptocurrency or blockchain activity.
