About Plasma
Plasma is a Layer-1 blockchain built for fast, low-fee stablecoin payments, with a focus on USDT transfers and EVM-compatible financial applications. The network was developed by Plasma Labs, though specific individual founders are not widely named in public sources. The mainnet beta and XPL token launched on September 25, 2025, alongside token generation and exchange listings. Plasma uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism where validators stake XPL to secure the network and earn block rewards. The native token, XPL, is used to pay gas fees for transactions and smart contracts, to stake and secure the network, and to participate in governance over protocol upgrades. XPL has an initial total supply of 10 billion tokens, with roughly 1.8 to 2.8 billion in circulation as of 2026. Validator rewards introduce ongoing programmatic issuance, making the supply inflationary in practice. The network is designed around stablecoin payments and aims to enable low-cost global value transfer.
