IBM adds Swift blockchain ledger support to its digital asset platform
The ledger was developed with more than 40 financial institutions and is now being piloted by 17 first-mover institutions.
IBM has added Swift shared ledger integration and an on-premises beta for Digital Asset Haven to support tokenized deposits and digital assets, the company said Thursday.
Introduced in October 2025, IBM Digital Asset Haven is an enterprise digital asset infrastructure platform for banks, governments and other regulated institutions. It provides a unified system for managing custody, wallets, transactions, governance, compliance and settlement across multiple blockchain networks.
Haven can connect with both public and private blockchains and incorporates institutional security controls such as multi-party computation, hardware-security-module signing and key-residency controls, according to IBM.
With the new capabilities in beta, Haven can now connect to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger for tokenized deposit transactions, while IBM is also making it available as an on-premises deployment running within clients’ own data centers.
Through the new ISO 20022 Messaging Adapter, financial institutions can use standard payment messages to instruct tokenized deposit transactions on Swift’s shared ledger rather than adopting blockchain-specific workflows, IBM stated.

Swift’s ledger supports bank-issued tokenized deposits and allows participating IBM clients to move digital assets 24/7 ahead of final settlement while retaining existing Swift standards and compliance processes.
The on-premises beta runs entirely on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE, giving clients control over both digital asset operations and key management without public cloud dependencies.
IBM said the deployment combines enterprise security with performance and scale, using IBM Crypto Express HSMs, confidential computing, secured environment partitioning, formal key ceremonies and cold storage. It also maintains the same architecture, APIs and workflows as Haven’s SaaS and hybrid options.
