JDG's rematch redemption sets up a high-stakes clash with Invictus Gaming for the last Chinese World Championship berth
Revenge is a dish best served on patch day. JD Gaming erased the memory of a painful August exit on September 18, 2026, defeating Team WE 3-1 in the lower bracket semifinals of the LPL 2026 Regional Finals at the Shanghai League Arena.
The result keeps JDG’s World Championship hopes alive. One more win and they’re on a plane to Worlds. One loss and the season is over.
A rematch that went differently
Context matters here. Team WE had already beaten JD Gaming once this postseason, knocking them out of the upper bracket with a 3-1 victory during the LPL Split 3 upper bracket quarterfinals on August 30, 2026.
That loss pushed JDG into the lower bracket, one of the least forgiving places in competitive League of Legends. Drop a single series and you’re done, while the team that beat you keeps playing with a safety net.
JDG didn’t drop the series. They went 3-1 again, but this time on the right side of the scoreline.
What’s next and why it matters
JD Gaming now faces Invictus Gaming in the lower bracket final on September 19, 2026, the day after this victory.
The winner of the JDG versus IG match claims the final LPL slot at the 2026 World Championship. The LPL Regional Finals exist precisely to resolve this question, with TES having already secured a direct seed into the event.
JD Gaming was founded in 2017 and carries the backing of JD.com, one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms.
JDG entered the Split 3 playoffs with a higher seed but had faced inconsistencies in matches coming in.
