Liverpool has agreed personal terms with Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivorian winger who turned heads across Europe during a breakout season at RB Leipzig. The two clubs are now negotiating the transfer fee, which is shaping up to be one of the most expensive deals of the summer window.

Leipzig reportedly values Diomande at around €130 million, roughly £112 million or $151 million. When a player scores 12 goals and dishes out 9 assists in a single Bundesliga campaign, the price tag starts to make a certain kind of sense.

From Leganés to Leipzig to Anfield

Born on November 14, 2006, the winger made his move to RB Leipzig in July 2025 after the German club triggered his €20 million release clause at Spanish side Leganés.

That €20 million investment has appreciated roughly six-fold in twelve months. Leipzig didn’t just get a squad player. They got the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign.

Why Liverpool, not PSG

Paris Saint-Germain has also been circling Diomande, making this a two-horse race between Europe’s most ambitious clubs. But the player himself is said to prefer Liverpool over the French champions.

Diomande reportedly wants his future settled before the upcoming World Cup, which adds urgency to the negotiations from all sides.

Liverpool has made direct contact with Leipzig and moved quickly to lock down personal terms with the player. Leipzig has no reason to sell cheaply. They paid €20 million for Diomande just last summer and now have a generational talent under a long-term contract. Their €130 million valuation is ambitious but not irrational given the current market for elite young wingers.

To bridge the gap, Liverpool is reportedly exploring the possibility of including Cody Gakpo in a player-plus-cash arrangement. Gakpo, the Dutch forward who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven, could sweeten the deal for Leipzig while reducing the raw cash outlay on Liverpool’s end.

For context, 12 goals and 9 assists from a winger in his first full Bundesliga season is exceptional output. The Rookie of the Season award reflected genuine, measurable dominance in his position.

A €130 million transfer, even partially offset by a player swap, would represent one of the largest deals in Liverpool’s history.
