About Bittensor
Bittensor is an open-source network that rewards contributions to machine-learning and artificial-intelligence work, built as a blockchain with independent subnets that produce different digital services. The TAO token rewards miners and validators, pays fees, and is staked or delegated to secure the network and earn influence. Jacob Steeves and Ala Shaabana founded the project through the Opentensor Foundation, with roots going back to 2016, a first white paper in 2019, and a network launch in January 2021. It uses a method called Yuma Consensus, which rewards participants based on the value of what they contribute rather than raw mining power. TAO has a fixed cap of 21 million, with issuance that halves over time.
