About Dash
Dash is a cryptocurrency network designed for fast, low-cost digital payments. The name is short for "digital cash." Evan Duffield created the project and launched the network in January 2014 as a fork of Litecoin. The network uses proof-of-work mining with the X11 hashing algorithm and a second tier of masternodes that provide network services and participate in governance. The native token is DASH, which is used to pay transaction fees and is the incentive for both miners and masternode operators. New issuance is split among miners, masternodes, and a treasury budget that funds development and other proposals approved through on-chain governance. The total supply of DASH is capped at approximately 18.9 million coins. Dash is a payments-focused cryptocurrency aimed at faster and cheaper transfers than many earlier networks.
