About Databricks
Databricks is an American data and artificial-intelligence company founded in 2013 and headquartered in San Francisco. It is led by co-founder and chief executive Ali Ghodsi. The company was started by the original creators of Apache Spark and popularised the "lakehouse" architecture, which merges a data warehouse and a data lake into one platform; its products span analytics, governance through Unity Catalog, the Lakebase serverless database and Genie, an AI assistant for data work. More than 20,000 organisations use the platform, including about 70% of the Fortune 500, and it competes most directly with Snowflake. Databricks is privately held and, unlike OpenAI and Anthropic, has not filed to go public; no exchange lists a pre-IPO derivative on its equity.
