Mistral AI is a French artificial-intelligence company founded in 2023 by Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix, and headquartered in Paris. Mensch is chief executive. The company builds open-weight and commercial large language models, sold through Le Chat, a developer API and on-premise deployments aimed at European governments and enterprises that want data to stay inside their own jurisdictions. It is the largest European challenger to the US frontier labs and has raised capital from strategic investors including Nvidia, Samsung Electronics and Salesforce Ventures. Mistral is privately held, has not announced an initial public offering, and no exchange lists a pre-IPO derivative on its equity.
