About eCash
eCash is a layer-1 cryptocurrency derived from Bitcoin, designed for peer-to-peer digital cash and payments. Amaury Séchet, the lead developer of Bitcoin ABC and a creator of Bitcoin Cash, founded the project. It launched on 15 November 2020 as a rebrand and continuation of Bitcoin Cash ABC. The network uses proof-of-work for block production and adds an Avalanche consensus layer for staking-based pre-consensus and faster transaction confirmation. Its native token, XEC, is used to pay network fees and to stake on the Avalanche layer to participate in consensus and earn staking rewards. eCash is aimed at digital payments rather than general-purpose smart-contract computation. XEC has a fixed maximum supply of 21 trillion tokens, a figure that reflects a redenomination of the prior Bitcoin Cash ABC supply into smaller units rather than a new issuance model. The network combines Bitcoin-lineage proof-of-work with hybrid Avalanche consensus and a hard supply cap.
