About Litecoin
Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open-source blockchain built for fast, low-cost payments. It works much like Bitcoin, letting people send value directly without a central intermediary. Charlie Lee, a former Google engineer, created it from Bitcoin's codebase and launched the network on October 13, 2011. Litecoin uses proof of work with the Scrypt algorithm and targets a new block every 2.5 minutes, faster than Bitcoin. Its supply is capped at 84 million coins, and the mining reward halves about every 840,000 blocks to slow new issuance over time.
