About Nym
Nym is a privacy-focused mix network and credential infrastructure that protects network-level metadata and application-level privacy through layered encryption and packet mixing. Harry Halpin, Claudia Diaz, and Aggelos Kiayias founded the project in 2017, with Nym established publicly as a privacy startup around 2018. The Nyx mainnet launched in February 2022, and an official network launch event was held in Paris on 14 April 2022. Nym's mixnet architecture routes traffic through multiple mix nodes that shuffle and delay packets to break the linkage between sender and receiver. Node operators are compensated through a reward-sharing mixmining scheme rather than conventional proof-of-work or proof-of-stake consensus. The native token, NYM, is issued on the Cosmos-based Nyx chain and also available as an ERC-20 token via a bridge. It is used to pay for mixnet usage, stake collateral for running mix nodes, earn delegated staking rewards, and participate in network incentives and governance. NYM has a hard-capped total supply of one billion tokens, all created at genesis, with no protocol-level inflation. Approximately 250 million tokens are reserved for mixmining emissions over time. Nym provides decentralized, incentivized network-level privacy infrastructure that applications and end users can route traffic through to protect their metadata.
