About Ripple USD
Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Ripple, designed to hold a constant value of one U.S. dollar for use in payments and settlement. Ripple was founded in 2012 by Chris Larsen, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto. The company created RLUSD in 2024, and the token launched globally on December 17, 2024. RLUSD is a fiat-backed, fully collateralized stablecoin issued natively on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. Its reserves are held in cash, cash equivalents, and U.S. government treasuries. The token is a stable medium of exchange and is not used for staking or governance. Its primary use is in cross-border and enterprise payments, including within Ripple's own payments products. The supply is uncapped; tokens are minted and redeemed against reserves so that total supply tracks demand rather than a fixed maximum.
