About Zcash
Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that lets the network confirm transactions without exposing the sender, receiver, or amount. It does this with zero-knowledge proofs called zk-SNARKs, and users can choose between transparent transfers and shielded, private ones. The project launched in October 2016 and is credited to cryptographer Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn and the Electric Coin Company, drawing on research from academics at several universities. Zcash uses proof of work and originally ran the Equihash mining algorithm. Like Bitcoin, it has a fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins, issued to miners over time.
