About SATS (Ordinals)
SATS (Ordinals) is a BRC-20 fungible token on the Bitcoin blockchain, created using the Ordinals protocol as a memecoin-style tribute to the satoshi, the smallest unit of bitcoin. It does not operate on its own blockchain and has no independent consensus mechanism. It inherits Bitcoin's proof-of-work security. The token launched on 9 March 2023 as an early experiment in fungible tokens on the Ordinals protocol. No clearly identified founding team is publicly associated with the project, and it is generally described as a community-driven initiative. The SATS token is used primarily as a transferable speculative asset and unit of account within the BRC-20 and Ordinals ecosystem. It has no documented staking, governance, or dedicated fee function beyond standard Bitcoin transaction fees. SATS has a fixed total supply of 2.1 quadrillion tokens, a number that mirrors the total number of satoshis that will exist when all 21 million bitcoin are issued. The full supply is reported as already minted and in circulation. SATS is one of the earliest and largest BRC-20 tokens by supply, functioning as a Bitcoin-native fungible asset for trading and experimentation within the Ordinals ecosystem.
