About Usual USD
Usual USD (USD0) is a USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Usual Protocol, designed for payments, trading, and use as collateral in decentralized finance applications. The project's founders include Philippe Honigman, Jan Baeriswyl, and Jacek Czarnecki, among others. The team raised a seed round in April 2024. USD0 launched publicly on Ethereum on July 10, 2024, and is the first stablecoin issued by Usual Protocol. It is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and also exists on Arbitrum. The token is fully collateralized 1:1 by tokenized U.S. Treasury bills and repurchase agreements and has no blockchain consensus mechanism of its own. USD0 functions as a cash-like onchain dollar, used for transfers, payments, trading, and DeFi collateral. The broader protocol has a separate governance token, USUAL, which redistributes ownership and governance rights to the community and has a maximum supply of 3 billion tokens. USD0 itself has a demand-driven supply, expanding or contracting through minting and redemption rather than following a fixed issuance cap.
