The XRPL AI Starter Kit lets AI agents autonomously create wallets and send payments using XRP or RLUSD through the x402 protocol

Ripple just gave AI agents their own crypto wallet. The company launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit on June 10, a developer toolkit designed to let autonomous AI systems conduct payments on the XRP Ledger without human intervention.

The kit integrates XRPL into the x402 open payment protocol, which already counts Stripe, Coinbase, and Cloudflare among its supporters. AI systems can now pay for API access, model inference, and other digital services using XRP or Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, all on their own.

What’s actually in the toolkit

Phase 1 of the starter kit includes tools that allow AI clients, including Anthropic’s Claude, to interact directly with XRPL documentation. The practical capabilities are straightforward but meaningful: wallet creation, transaction monitoring, and real-time payment processing.

The integration runs through a partner called t54, which bridges XRPL into the x402 protocol. That protocol has been processing a substantial volume of machine-to-machine transactions, with estimates placing throughput between 75 and 120 million transactions in recent months, worth tens of millions of dollars in aggregate value.

XRPL brings some specific technical advantages to this setup. Settlement times run between 3 and 5 seconds, fees are predictable rather than volatile, and the ledger includes a native decentralized exchange.

The Mastercard connection and Tempo’s parallel track

Ripple also joined Mastercard’s Agent Pay for Machines program, a consortium of over 30 industry partners building infrastructure for agentic commerce. Stripe and Coinbase are also members.

Running on a parallel track is Tempo, which co-authored the Machine Payments Protocol with Stripe and launched its own mainnet back in March 2026. MPP and x402 are distinct standards tackling the same problem.

Why this matters for XRP’s utility thesis

XRP and RLUSD are positioned as the settlement assets for machine-to-machine transactions on the XRPL side. Coinbase has its own x402 integration running on Base. Tempo’s MPP, backed by Stripe’s distribution, could capture market share independently of x402.

Ripple’s advantage is timing and partnerships. Being integrated into x402 alongside Stripe and Coinbase, while simultaneously joining Mastercard’s agentic commerce program, gives XRPL presence across multiple emerging standards.
