About Internet Computer
Internet Computer is a blockchain network that lets developers run software, websites, and online services directly on-chain instead of on traditional cloud servers. Applications live in units called canisters, which serve interfaces, store data, and run backend logic across the network's subnets. The DFINITY Foundation built the project, which Dominic Williams started in 2016, and the mainnet launched on May 10, 2021. Governance runs through the Network Nervous System, while independent subnets, operated by separate node providers, do the work. Its ICP token is used for governance, paying for computation, and rewarding participants, and ICP is converted into cycles that applications spend on compute.
