The New York AI startup is betting that autonomous agents can find what broke in production faster than humans can
Software breaks, and it rarely picks a convenient moment to do it. Traversal wants to be the AI that figures out why before customers start refreshing the status page.
The New York City startup has raised $120 million at a $1 billion valuation, as of November 3, 2026. The money will go toward its AI site reliability engineering platform, which is built to find, diagnose and prevent production outages in enterprise software.
That puts Traversal in unicorn territory roughly three years after its 2023 founding.
What Traversal actually does
Site reliability engineering, or SRE, is the discipline of keeping software systems running. When a payment system stalls or an app goes dark, SRE teams are the ones who get paged.
Traversal’s pitch is to hand much of that investigation to AI. The platform combines agentic AI and causal machine learning to identify and resolve complex incidents on its own.
Those two terms deserve a quick unpacking. Agentic AI refers to systems that carry out multistep tasks by themselves, rather than waiting for a human to type each question. Causal machine learning tries to work out what actually caused what, instead of flagging things that merely happened at the same time.
The product lineup expanded in September 2026. Traversal made its Incident Workers generally available and opened a public beta of Alert Workers.
The numbers behind the valuation
Investors writing a nine-figure check usually want traction, and Traversal is pointing to plenty of it. The company reports greater than 90% root-cause accuracy on high-impact incidents.

It also cites an average 85% reduction in mean time to recovery, or MTTR, on critical incidents. MTTR measures how long it takes to get a broken system working again, so a cut that deep means outages that end far sooner.
On the business side, Traversal reports 8x growth in annual recurring revenue over the past six months. Recent product launches drove much of that jump, according to the company.
Usage has climbed too. Traversal reports 14x growth in monthly active users since January 2026, and more than 71,400 investigations completed in a single quarter.
The customer list helps explain the valuation. DigitalOcean and PepsiCo use the platform, along with multiple unnamed Fortune 100 financial institutions.
How Traversal got here
Traversal was founded in 2023 by a group of AI researchers. CEO Anish Agarwal comes from Columbia University.
The company emerged from stealth in June 2025 with $48 million in combined seed and Series A funding. Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins led those rounds.
In March 2026, Amex Ventures made a strategic investment tied to a partnership. The arrangement is aimed at integrating Traversal’s technology with American Express’s operations.
The new $120 million raise is two and a half times the size of everything Traversal raised when it came out of stealth. Less than a year and a half separates the two announcements.
What this means for enterprise software
The clearest signal is investor appetite for AI that does operational work, not just conversational work. Traversal is selling something closer to a measurable outcome: shorter outages.
There are caveats. The accuracy and recovery figures come from Traversal itself, and growth multiples are only as impressive as the base they start from. An 8x jump in recurring revenue tells you about momentum more than scale.
Near-term milestones are easy to track. Watch whether Alert Workers graduates from public beta, whether more named enterprise customers surface, and whether those 71,400 quarterly investigations keep climbing.
