XPENG unveils autonomous driving AI roadmap and World Model vision at CVPR 2026
VLA 2.0 hits mass production with over 50% assisted-driving mileage share in its first month, while XPENG sets its sights on robotaxis and humanoid robots by 2027
XPENG showed up to CVPR 2026 in Denver with a full technical blueprint, not a concept deck.
The Chinese EV and AI company used the world’s premier computer vision conference to unveil its Physical-World Foundation Model roadmap, anchored by something it calls the World Model vision. Dr. Xianming Liu delivered the presentation, sharing the stage with representatives from Tesla, NVIDIA, and Waymo.
VLA 2.0 is already in cars, and the numbers are striking
The headline product is VLA 2.0, XPENG’s foundational driving model, which has officially entered mass production.
Here is the number that matters: within its first month of rollout, VLA 2.0 captured over 50% of assisted-driving mileage share across XPENG’s fleet.
The model sits at the center of XPENG’s broader Physical-World Foundation Model, which focuses on three core capabilities: Deliberative Reasoning, Controllable Generation, and Long-Horizon Forecasting.

XPENG also introduced four research papers at the conference: X-World, X-Foresight, X-Cache, and DrivePTS.
The infrastructure story is just as important as the model itself
Over the past year leading up to the announcement, the company reported a 4,360% improvement in single-job training efficiency. GPU utilization across its training infrastructure climbed from 40% to 90% over the same period.
Robotaxis and a humanoid robot are the next acts
Robotaxis powered by VLA 2.0 are on the roadmap, with XPENG targeting deployment as part of its 2027 plans. The company is also developing the IRON humanoid robot, with mass production targeted for the end of 2026 and potential deployment in physical retail stores by Q1 2027.
What this means for investors watching XPEV
XPENG trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker XPEV. The VLA 2.0 mileage share figure is one concrete metric to track: if that number grows beyond 50% and holds, it suggests strong user acceptance and real-world reliability. The IRON humanoid robot and robotaxi timelines give the company two high-profile milestones in the next 12 to 18 months.
