The British in-game leader could replace rain as captain, marking another roster shakeup for the North American organization
100 Thieves are reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Jack “Gizmy” von Spreckelsen from Monte, a move that would install the 22-year-old British player as their new in-game leader in CS2.
If finalized, the deal would push current captain Håvard “rain” Nygaard out of the IGL seat and into a different role on the roster.
From academy to IGL in fourteen months
Gizmy’s rise has been remarkably quick by Counter-Strike standards. He joined Monte’s academy squad, Monte Gen, in November 2023. By January 6, 2025, he had earned a promotion to the main roster and taken over as in-game leader.
Under his leadership, Monte reached Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026. His career prize earnings sit at approximately $36K, a figure that reflects his relatively short time at the top level.
What this means for rain and 100 Thieves’ structure
Rain is one of the most recognizable names in Counter-Strike history. Moving rain out of the captaincy doesn’t necessarily mean he’s being benched, but it does mean 100 Thieves have concluded that the team’s tactical direction needs a fundamentally different voice.
Transitioning a veteran player away from the IGL role can go one of two ways. Sometimes it frees them up to focus purely on mechanics, and their individual numbers spike. Other times, the loss of strategic control creates friction that bleeds into everything else.
