Ajax is treating Barcelona’s roster like a clearance aisle. The Dutch club, already having locked down goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen on a season-long loan, is now reportedly pushing to sign at least one more Barcelona attacker as it reshapes its squad for the 2026-27 campaign.

The most concrete target appears to be Jofre Torrents, a young forward from Barcelona’s academy pipeline. Ajax has proposed a loan deal that includes an option to purchase 50% of the player’s rights for a fee of around €5 million, a structure that signals the Amsterdam club wants more than a temporary fix.

Ajax’s Barcelona pipeline is getting crowded

The ter Stegen deal set the tone. The veteran German goalkeeper, now 34, officially completed his loan move to Ajax on August 4, 2026, joining the club until June 30, 2027, with Ajax picking up the majority of his wages. The arrangement had been verbally agreed in early July, and it reunites ter Stegen with Ajax coach Míchel, who has previous ties to the keeper from their overlapping years in Spanish football.

But Ajax isn’t stopping at the goalkeeper position. The club has turned its attention further up the pitch, with the Torrents proposal currently under review at Barcelona. Beyond Torrents, reports indicate Ajax is evaluating at least one additional winger or attacker from Barcelona’s books. The identity of that target hasn’t been confirmed publicly.

Why Barcelona keeps saying yes

Loaning out players like ter Stegen, whose wages are substantial, provides immediate relief on the books. And for younger players like Torrents, a loan to a club with Ajax’s development pedigree is hardly a bad outcome.

The 50% rights structure in the Torrents proposal gives Ajax a meaningful stake in the player’s future value without requiring Barcelona to fully sever ties. If Torrents develops well in Amsterdam, both clubs benefit from a future sale. If he doesn’t, Barcelona has at least saved on wages and given a prospect competitive minutes.

Barcelona’s willingness to entertain multiple deals with a single club also suggests a level of trust between the two organizations. Ajax and Barcelona share philosophical DNA through the Johan Cruyff coaching tree, and that connection has facilitated transfers in both directions over the years. Frenkie de Jong’s move from Amsterdam to Camp Nou in 2019 remains one of the more prominent examples of the corridor between these two clubs.
