Alpaca raises $135 million to expand AI-native brokerage infrastructure
The company believes the convergence of tokenization and AI is creating huge demand for the next-generation financial infrastructure.
Alpaca has raised $135 million in equity as part of a total $435 million financing package to accelerate the expansion of its AI-native brokerage infrastructure and tokenized market services, the company said Thursday.
Led by Peak XV Partners, the funding follows the company’s $150 million Series D earlier this year and will support the development of agent-first brokerage technology and API-driven prime brokerage services for financial institutions operating across traditional and blockchain-based markets.
Founded by Yoshi Yokokawa and Hitoshi Harada, Alpaca operates as a US broker-dealer and self-clearing brokerage platform, offering technology that powers stock, ETF and crypto trading through APIs. It helps developers automate trading strategies and enables businesses to launch investing products without building a brokerage infrastructure from scratch.
The funding comes after a period of rapid growth for Alpaca, marked by acquisitions in India and Europe, expanding access to global equities, onboarding major crypto exchanges and financial institutions, and doubling annual revenue for three consecutive years.
