Anthropic launches beta Life Sciences Verification Program for AI models

The invite-only program gives qualifying organizations access to Anthropic's most advanced biology-focused AI models, including Mythos 5.1

Anthropic just opened the doors, if only slightly, to its most powerful biology-focused AI. The company’s new Life Sciences Verification Program, which went live on September 17, is a gated beta that gives qualifying organizations access to advanced models purpose-built for drug discovery and biological research.

The catch: it’s invite-only, requires an eligibility review, and approval isn’t guaranteed.

What the program actually offers

Organizations that clear the verification process gain access to Anthropic’s Mythos 5.1 model, along with Opus 5 and Sonnet 5. These are the company’s highest-capacity models for biology-related tasks, spanning everything from protein engineering to virology research.

Interested teams need to submit an admin form and wait for Anthropic’s review.

The program also sits alongside Anthropic’s existing AI for Science credit program, which provides researchers with credits ranging from $20,000 to $50,000.

Anthropic has built in biosafety classifiers and controlled access pathways specifically designed to manage dual-use risks.

A year of building toward this moment

The Life Sciences Verification Program didn’t appear out of nowhere. Anthropic has been methodically building its presence in the life sciences space since at least October 2025, when it launched Claude for Life Sciences. That initial release included integrations with Benchling, the widely used biotech data platform, and PubMed, the US government’s database of biomedical literature.

Then came the Claude Science AI workbench, which entered public beta on June 30, 2026.

By August 2026, Anthropic had formalized a partnership with the US government to vet access to its high-capacity models in sensitive biological research areas.

The partnerships extend beyond government. Anthropic has established collaborations with Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical giant behind some of the world’s most prescribed diabetes and obesity drugs, as well as the Allen Institute and Howard Hughes Medical Institute, two of the most prominent biomedical research organizations in the US.
