About LayerZero

LayerZero is a cross-chain interoperability protocol that enables messaging and asset transfers between multiple blockchains. Bryan Pellegrino, Ryan Zarick, and Caleb Banister co-founded LayerZero Labs in 2021. It is not a standalone blockchain with its own consensus mechanism. Instead, it works as a messaging layer that uses external oracles and relayers to pass data between chains. The ZRO token launched via an airdrop and claims process on 20 June 2024. ZRO is the native token of the LayerZero protocol and is used for governance, paying protocol fees, and staking-related functions. ZRO has a fixed maximum supply of one billion tokens, with no inflation, distributed over a multi-year vesting schedule. LayerZero allows decentralized applications and users to interact across different blockchain networks through a unified messaging infrastructure.
