Apple clears key regulatory hurdle for AI rollout in China

Chinese authorities have approved Apple Intelligence for launch in China, allowing Apple to move forward with bringing its generative AI platform to the country’s iPhone users.

The localized version has been tailored to China’s regulatory framework through partnerships with Alibaba, which supports AI model compliance, and Baidu, which provides search functionality.

Apple has not disclosed a rollout timeline, though the approval removes one of the final barriers to deployment.

The development is expected to strengthen Apple’s position in China as demand for AI-enabled smartphones continues to grow.

Coming amid improving sales momentum, the launch of Apple Intelligence could help Apple compete more effectively with domestic rivals including Huawei and Xiaomi, although the company is entering a market where local manufacturers have already established strong AI offerings.
