Stryzhak paid Nefilim’s alleged boss 20% of ransoms and used Hive’s platform to attack about seven victims, prosecutors say.

A New York federal court sentenced Ukrainian national Artem Stryzhak to 70 months in prison for his role as an affiliate of the Nefilim and Hive ransomware gangs, The Register reported. Spanish police arrested him in June 2024, and he was extradited to the US in April 2025.

Prosecutors say Stryzhak began working with Nefilim around June 2021 while living in Barcelona, agreeing to pay alleged leader Volodymyr Tymoshchuk 20% of the ransoms he collected. Around the same time he joined Hive, one of its earliest affiliates, and used its platform to attack about seven victims.

FBI pursues alleged Nefilim leader

FBI cyber official Brett Leatherman called Stryzhak a “prolific cybercriminal” tied to groups responsible for more than $100 million in victim damages. Hive’s victims included an Ohio hospital that paid about $1.7 million in Bitcoin during the pandemic. The Justice Department publicized rewards of up to $11 million for information on Tymoshchuk and other suspects.
