Atlético Madrid shows interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy
The Guinean forward has made clear his desire to leave Dortmund, with a release clause of around €50 million activating this summer
Atlético Madrid have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy, adding another layer to what is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched transfer sagas of the summer window.
Guirassy, who turned 30 in March, has publicly stated his desire to leave Dortmund at the end of the season.
A prolific Champions League scorer on the move
He scored 13 Champions League goals during the 2024-25 season, a number that puts him in genuinely elite company regardless of league affiliation.
Dortmund signed the Guinean international from VfB Stuttgart in July 2024 for €18 million.
His contract with Dortmund includes a release clause that drops to approximately €50 million this summer. Any club willing to meet that number can bypass Dortmund’s negotiating leverage entirely and deal directly with the player.
Atlético’s long-standing pursuit
Atlético’s interest in Guirassy is not exactly breaking news in the strictest sense. The Spanish club was first linked to the forward as far back as December 2023, well before his move to Dortmund even materialized.
That initial interest resurfaced around June 2024, when Guirassy was weighing his options before ultimately choosing the Bundesliga side. Atlético were reportedly in the conversation then, alongside other potential targets like Jonathan David.
Atlético are not the only club in the mix. Reports have linked Fenerbahce and AC Milan to Guirassy as well. Real Madrid has also been mentioned as a potential destination, partly because the release clause structure in his contract was specifically designed to grant access to clubs of that caliber.
