BitGo CEO Mike Belshe says digital assets are going mainstream, with or without Congress

At Token2049 Singapore, Belshe argued institutional adoption is moving ahead of US lawmakers as BitGo's Asia business expands

BitGo CEO Mike Belshe has a message for Washington: the train is leaving the station, and it is not waiting for a ticket from Congress.

Speaking with Bloomberg on October 7 at Token2049 Singapore, the BitGo co-founder argued that digital assets are becoming part of the mainstream financial system regardless of what US lawmakers do next.

Belshe’s case: adoption is outrunning legislation

Belshe’s core point was simple. He said digital assets are joining the financial system “whether the US Congress acts or not.”

Token2049 Singapore runs from October 7 to 8. Belshe is scheduled to take the Institutional Stage on October 8 for a session on what regulatory clarity means for institutional strategy in crypto.

Singapore is doing a lot of the heavy lifting

BitGo, which trades publicly under the ticker BTGO, has been leaning hard into the Asia-Pacific region. Its Singapore entity has become central to that push.

The company’s Singapore trading desk is now its largest anywhere in the world.

The growth traces back to BitGo’s Major Payment Institution licence, granted in 2024. Since obtaining that licence, BitGo’s APAC client base has tripled, while regional headcount has more than doubled. The company has also reported that its trading volumes in the region more than doubled in the first half of 2026.

A new partnership with HashKey Cloud

BitGo also used the Token2049 window to deepen its regional ties. On October 6, the company and HashKey Cloud formalized a strategic partnership.

The deal spans four areas: staking, trading, custody, and real-world asset tokenization.

The prime brokerage bet

Behind the Asia expansion sits a broader strategic shift. Belshe has positioned prime brokerage as BitGo’s target revenue driver, with a stated aim for prime brokerage to become 100% of revenue, rather than relying on standalone custody fees.

The HashKey deal, with its mix of staking, trading, custody, and tokenization, fits neatly into that vision.

What this means

For investors watching BTGO, the story is increasingly about Asia and about revenue mix. A Singapore desk that now outranks every other BitGo desk globally makes the region a key variable in the company’s growth narrative.

Singapore’s role here is worth noting on its own terms. BitGo’s growth since its MPI licence offers a real-world example of how a defined licensing framework can attract institutional business.
