BlackRock cuts Bitcoin ETF in-kind threshold to $1 million

US spot Bitcoin ETFs netted approximately $865 million in weekly inflows in the wake of the Coldcard exploit.

BlackRock is making its flagship Bitcoin ETF, the IBIT fund, more accessible to investors looking to exchange BTC for ETF shares.

The minimum for in-kind transactions has fallen from $25 million to $1 million, BlackRock’s Head of Digital Assets, Robbie Mitchnick, said in a Monday interview with Bloomberg TV first reported by ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.

The move comes amid heightened self-custody concerns following the recent Coldcard exploit, potentially strengthening the appeal of institutional custody and ETF products.

Bitcoin ETFs saw approximately $1 billion in weekly inflows last week, their strongest showing since April and the third-best weekly performance since the market was shaken by the “Silent IPO” in October.

Farside data put net inflows into US-listed spot Bitcoin funds at about $865 million, with BlackRock’s IBIT leading at $693.5 million and Fidelity’s FBTC attracting $116.5 million.

The strong demand came as attention around the Coldcard hack intensified, with attackers exploiting a flaw in the wallet’s seed-generation process to target vulnerable wallets remotely.
