José Bordalás signs two-year deal with Getafe until June 2028
The veteran Spanish coach commits to extending his second stint at the La Liga club through the 2027-28 season.
José Bordalás has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract extension with Getafe CF, keeping the veteran coach at the La Liga club through June 2028.
The deal ends months of speculation about whether Bordalás would remain at the helm of the Madrid-based side, which he rejoined for a second stint back in April 2023.
From uncertainty to commitment
Bordalás originally returned to Getafe on a deal that was set to expire on June 30, 2026. For a while, it looked like that might be the end of the road.
Reports from earlier in 2026 suggested the coach would not extend his stay. The reasons cited were salary constraints and internal club dynamics.
The Bordalás blueprint at Getafe
His first tenure at Getafe ran from 2016 to 2021. During that stretch, he transformed a club with modest resources into a legitimate La Liga competitor.
Across both stints combined, Bordalás has now managed over 200 matches at the club.
Born on March 5, 1964, Bordalás is now 62 years old.
What this means going forward
The extension through 2028 gives Getafe a planning horizon that most mid-table La Liga clubs don’t enjoy.
The earlier reports about tensions and financial constraints haven’t disappeared just because a contract was signed. Those structural challenges will likely persist.
