Coinbase brings native crypto futures to Canadian traders
The exchange launches 23 futures contracts with up to 10x leverage through its financial markets subsidiary, marking a first for major crypto platforms in Canada.
Coinbase has begun offering regulated derivatives contracts to eligible Canadian traders, opening access to perpetual and dated futures through its Coinbase Financial Markets unit.
With this move, the company has become the first major crypto-native platform to bring direct native crypto futures to Canada.
The company said the launch includes 23 crypto perpetual and dated futures, covering Bitcoin, Ether and Solana, along with five commodity futures linked to gold, silver and oil. Investors can also trade index futures including COIN50.
Coinbase said Canadian traders have historically had to turn to offshore or unregulated platforms for crypto derivatives. Its new offering is designed to provide a regulated alternative as cryptocurrencies become a larger part of Canada’s financial markets.

The contracts are provided through Coinbase Financial Markets, which is registered with the CFTC as a futures commission merchant. Nano contracts lower upfront capital requirements, while traders can use up to 10x leverage and take either long or short positions.
