Coinbase opens spot trading for Ritual’s RITUAL token

The AI-focused Layer 1 project's token is now tradable on Coinbase in supported jurisdictions, weeks after landing on the exchange's listing roadmap

Coinbase has switched on spot trading for Ritual (RITUAL), the native token of a blockchain built around autonomous AI agents. The market is live in supported jurisdictions.

What Coinbase actually turned on

The listing covers spot trading only. Buyers and sellers swap the token directly at current prices. There is no leverage, no futures and no clever derivatives wrapper.

Access depends on where you live. Coinbase limited the launch to supported jurisdictions, so availability will vary by region.

The move did not come out of nowhere. Coinbase placed RITUAL on its asset listing roadmap on September 16, 2026.

A regulatory filing also pointed in this direction. A white paper prepared under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR), dated October 26, 2026, names Coinbase as a trading venue for RITUAL. It lists OKX and Bitvavo alongside it.

MiCAR white papers are disclosure documents required for many tokens offered in the European Union. They spell out what a token is, who issued it and where it can be traded.

What Ritual is building

Ritual is developing a specialized Layer 1 blockchain. The design goal is narrow and ambitious. Ritual wants AI agents to live on-chain, hold capital and carry out tasks without a human pressing the buttons.

The RITUAL token sits at the center of that system. It covers several jobs at once:

  • Gas fees: paying to process transactions on the network.
  • AI inference: paying for AI models to run and return results.
  • Staking: locking tokens to help secure the chain.
  • Governance: voting on how the protocol evolves.

The tokenomics in numbers

The Ritual Foundation published its full tokenomics in October 2026. The headline figure is an initial supply of 10 billion RITUAL.

Only a slice of that supply is free to move at the start. The foundation said 1.8 billion tokens, or 18% of the initial supply, unlock at the public mainnet launch. That unlocked portion includes a community airdrop.

The rest is spread across several buckets. Core contributors receive 29% of the supply. Ecosystem and research and development get 25%.

Insiders face a waiting period. Their tokens stay locked for at least one year after launch.

Why the float matters

An 18% initial float is a number traders watch closely. When a small share of total supply circulates, the price is set by a relatively thin pool of tokens.

The bigger question sits further down the calendar. Insider allocations of 29% for core contributors are locked for at least a year. When those locks expire, a meaningful chunk of new supply becomes eligible to trade.

The European angle is worth watching too. The MiCAR white paper names Coinbase, OKX and Bitvavo as venues. That suggests Ritual is building its distribution with regulatory disclosure in mind, which matters as EU rules shape which tokens can be offered and where.

For traders, the practical checklist is short. Confirm availability in your region. Understand that only 18% of the initial supply is unlocked. Mark the one-year point after launch, when insider tokens begin to become eligible for release.
