Copper begins planning CEO succession for 2027

CEO Amar Kuchinad said he remains committed to Copper's expansion and its ambition to build infrastructure supporting more connected, efficient and resilient capital markets.

Copper CEO Amar Kuchinad is departing the crypto custody firm as its efforts to find a buyer continue into a fourth month, CoinDesk reported Wednesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

Copper has been seeking a buyer since at least May, with Cantor Fitzgerald hired to oversee the process and market the company for $500 million.

Kuchinad took over as CEO in October 2024 following the departure of founder and former CEO Dmitry Tokarev. Copper has since added Elin Cherry as chief compliance officer and Sean Bowen as chief operating officer. Before joining Copper, Kuchinad worked at Goldman Sachs and served in an advisory capacity to the SEC.

In a LinkedIn statement, Kuchinad said he is working with the company’s board and management team on a leadership succession plan for 2027, as the crypto infrastructure firm prepares for its next stage of development.

Copper’s client and partner relationships will remain a priority throughout the succession process, according to Kuchinad. He said the company intended to communicate the plans after discussions with regulators, employees, clients and partners.

Kuchinad said he remains focused on Copper’s growth and its goal of developing infrastructure for more connected, efficient and resilient capital markets.
