Culper alleges Cerebras runs continuous “dummy operations” to keep its wafers from cooling, which it says speeds degradation.

Culper Research disclosed a short position in Cerebras Systems on Wednesday, alleging the AI chipmaker’s wafer-scale processors have a field lifespan of only 1.5 to 2.5 years, Investing.com reported. Cerebras shares fell about 4%.

Culper alleges Cerebras programs its wafers to run continuous “dummy operations” so they never cool down, citing comments it attributes to a Cerebras solutions architect at a June event in Berlin and a “dummy tokens” field in decompiled client software. It argues wafers that never cool degrade rapidly.

Short seller disputes connector claim

Culper also disputes Chief Executive Officer Andrew Feldman’s claim that Cerebras invented a novel connector material to address thermal expansion, saying the company uses PariPoser, a material developed in the 1980s by Paricon Technologies. Cerebras had not publicly responded to the allegations.
