Frax launches six-currency FX lineup on Aerodrome

The stablecoin issuer paired frxUSD with six local-currency tokens on Base, starting with about $241,000 in liquidity

Frax Finance has opened six foreign exchange pools on Aerodrome, the leading decentralized exchange on Base. Each pool pairs frxUSD, Frax’s dollar-pegged stablecoin, with a stablecoin tracking a different national currency.

The launch was announced on October 19, 2026.

Six currencies, one dollar anchor

The lineup covers a fairly global spread. Traders can now swap frxUSD against BRZ (Brazilian real), CADD (Canadian dollar), tGBP (British pound), IDRX (Indonesian rupiah), ZARP (South African rand) and AUDF (Australian dollar).

Frax built the pools with market maker DFB_DeFi.

Early numbers are modest. According to GeckoTerminal data, the six Base pools held about $241,000 in combined liquidity and saw roughly $20,000 in trading volume over 24 hours.

Offchain FX has been estimated as a multi-trillion-dollar daily opportunity, and onchain markets have barely scratched it.

Building on the Polygon playbook

This is not Frax’s first attempt at onchain currency pairs. Earlier in 2026, the protocol launched similar frxUSD-paired pools on Polygon through Curve Finance, as part of a partnership with Polygon Labs.

On Aerodrome, frxUSD already acts as a connector token, meaning it helps route trades between assets that lack a direct pool.

The Aero merger and what to watch

Aerodrome is set to merge with Velodrome, its sister exchange, with the goal of creating a unified liquidity layer called Aero. That transition is scheduled for October 21, 2026, two days after the FX pools went live. Frax plans to move its protocol-owned liquidity, including frxETH and FRAX, onto the new Aero platform after the merger.

With about $241,000 spread across six pools, depth is thin. Larger trades could move prices noticeably. Roughly $20,000 a day across six pairs does not yet generate much in fees.

A pool pairing frxUSD with ZARP or IDRX carries exposure to moves in the rand or rupiah against the dollar. Providers are taking a view on emerging-market currencies, whether they intend to or not.
