Gate’s TradFi desk records $17B in September trading volume

Metals trading drove more than half of Gate.io's traditional finance activity as investors flocked to safe-haven assets amid macro uncertainty.

Gate.io’s traditional finance trading desk pulled in over $16.86 billion in September volume, a sharp jump from the $12.58 billion it recorded in August. The growth was powered almost entirely by one asset class that your grandfather would recognize: metals.

Gold and silver trades alone accounted for 54% of the platform’s total TradFi activity. As of September 23, cumulative metals trading volume on Gate had already reached $18.3 billion for the month, meaning the metals segment by itself eclipsed August’s entire TradFi output.

A crypto exchange betting big on Wall Street’s playbook

Gate.io now lists 1,022 TradFi instruments, more than four times the count of its nearest competitor. That catalog includes CFDs, tokenized equities, and commodities contracts.

Daily trading volumes during September’s recovery frequently approached or exceeded $1.6 billion. Some peak weeks reportedly saw aggregate volumes blow past $20 billion.

Gate now ranks as the third-largest platform globally by TradFi volume share, holding roughly 10.7% of the tracked market based on August data.

From January through August 2026, cumulative TradFi trading on Gate totaled $135.5 billion.

Why metals, and why now

The trajectory follows what analysts describe as a U-shaped recovery pattern for the platform’s 2026 trading volumes. After dipping during the early summer months, activity snapped back hard, with metals leading the charge and broader TradFi instruments following suit.

Equities tied to technology and innovation sectors have also drawn significant volume, particularly names linked to semiconductors and SpaceX. The combination of safe-haven metals and high-beta tech equity exposure gives Gate’s TradFi desk a barbell profile.
