Google launches Gemini 3.8 Live with near real time AI avatars
Google's latest AI model brings real-time video avatars with lip-syncing, natural expressions, and support for 97 languages to enterprise customers.
Google has launched Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, adding near real time generated video to its conversational AI model for enterprise agents.
The feature pairs Gemini 3.8 Live’s speech capabilities with synchronized video avatars that can listen, see and respond with facial expressions and lip movements.
Google said the system is designed for applications including customer service, interactive walkthroughs and other conversational enterprise experiences.
Live Avatar can process audio and visual inputs simultaneously, allowing an agent to respond to what a user says while also interpreting a live camera feed or screen share.
The system also supports asynchronous tool calls. An agent can query an API, CRM or other backend system while continuing the conversation instead of pausing until the request completes.

Google said Live Avatar can automatically detect and switch between 97 languages while adapting speech, lip sync and expressions without requiring users to manually change language settings.
Companies can use Google’s library of preset avatars or create customized versions from a reference image. Custom avatars are currently limited to approved enterprise customers.
Google is also applying SynthID watermarks to generated audio and video to make AI generated content detectable.
Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar is now generally available through Gemini Enterprise and the Gemini Live API, with US and EU endpoints. Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking remains in private preview.
