Ipswich Town leads 1-0 as Emerson scores first Premier League goal

Ipswich Town’s club-record signing Emersonn scored his first goal for the club during a 4-2 pre-season victory over Union Berlin on August 15, giving the Tractor Boys a promising foundation ahead of their Premier League return.

The 22-year-old Brazilian forward, whose full name is Emersonn Correia de Silva, arrived at Ipswich on July 8, 2026, from French club Toulouse in a deal worth £27 million — a record fee on the selling side as well. Emersonn is the first Brazilian player to represent Ipswich Town.

From pre-season promise to Premier League reality

Emersonn had been finding the net throughout Ipswich’s summer preparation, including a strike against Rayo Vallecano before his goal against Union Berlin on August 15.

O’Neil brought Emersonn in to bolster Ipswich’s physicality and pressing game. At 22 years old, born July 16, 2004, the forward also represents a long-term investment rather than a short-term fix.

Ipswich’s return to the top flight

Ipswich Town’s season opener against Sunderland is scheduled for August 22, 2026. No Premier League matches featuring Ipswich had taken place as of that date, meaning Emersonn’s goal tally in competitive Premier League action had yet to begin.

His pre-season link-up with Jack Clarke and Sindre Walle Egeli suggested early attacking cohesion. For Toulouse, the £27 million fee represents a record sale that funds significant recruitment capacity for a Ligue 1 club outside the traditional powerhouses.
