Kakao Pay and Kakao Bank team with Fireblocks to build Korean digital asset ecosystem
The partnership will focus on digital asset distribution frameworks that account for local regulatory and security requirements.
Kakao Pay and Kakao Bank are partnering with Fireblocks to lay the groundwork for a digital asset ecosystem in Korea, according to a recent statement.
Under a memorandum of understanding, the companies will jointly explore opportunities in the local market, including potential applications for stablecoins.
The three companies will assess digital asset distribution frameworks designed to meet Korea’s regulatory, security and service requirements. They will also conduct proof-of-concept tests to evaluate potential infrastructure and use cases.
The partnership combines Kakao’s nationwide fintech and banking presence with Fireblocks’ digital asset infrastructure. Fireblocks provides technology for institutional custody, payments, settlement, tokenization and other blockchain-based financial services.
