Liverpool and Nottingham Forest share spoils in thrilling 2-2 Anfield draw
Both sides remain winless after a dramatic second matchweek encounter featuring four goals and a late equalizer from Victor Muñoz
Liverpool’s search for a first win of the 2026/27 Premier League season continues after Nottingham Forest twice took the lead at Anfield, only for the hosts to claw back a 2-2 draw in front of 61,276 fans on August 29.
Four goals, zero winners
Nottingham Forest struck first through Dan Ndoye in the 24th minute, exploiting a gap in Liverpool’s backline. Liverpool responded through Alexander Isak, who converted in the 60th minute to level things up. Forest retook the lead when Morgan Gibbs-White stepped up to convert a penalty in the 70th minute. Victor Muñoz then produced a sensational strike in the 82nd minute to rescue a point for Liverpool.
Player ratings and standout performances
Liverpool’s defensive pairing drew attention throughout the 90 minutes, with Ibrahima Konaté earning particular praise for his aerial dominance and recovery pace. Virgil van Dijk marshalled the backline, though even his presence couldn’t prevent Forest from finding two routes to goal.
In midfield, Florian Wirtz showed flashes of creativity while Dominik Szoboszlai worked in a box-to-box role. Alisson was solid between the posts but could do little about either Forest goal. The penalty was well-placed, and Ndoye’s opener came from a defensive breakdown rather than a goalkeeping error.

On Forest’s side, goalkeeper Matz Sels made several key saves before Liverpool’s late equalizer. The center-back pairing of Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo was physical and organized. Gibbs-White’s influence extended beyond his penalty conversion, while Ndoye contributed both a goal and an impressive all-around display.
Context: two teams still searching for form
Liverpool entered the weekend having scraped a 1-1 draw against Newcastle in matchweek one, saved by a late penalty of their own. Two draws from two matches left them still without a win. Forest arrived at Anfield having lost both of their previous matches, making a point on Merseyside a small consolation.
