Liverpool signs PSG’s Barcola for up to £123M in its biggest summer statement yet

Liverpool has agreed a deal worth up to £123 million to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, making the 23-year-old French winger one of the most expensive players in the club’s history. The guaranteed portion of the fee sits at £106 million, with a further £17 million available in performance-related add-ons.

Barcola is set to undergo a medical over the weekend before signing a five-year contract running through to 2031, tying his future to Anfield well into the next decade.

Filling a very large void

The signing is Liverpool’s most direct answer yet to a summer that saw Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz both leave the club. New head coach Andoni Iraola, who took over in June 2026, inherited a forward line with a conspicuous gap where two of its most dangerous attackers used to stand.

His numbers at PSG carry weight. Across 152 appearances for the Parisian club, Barcola contributed 39 goals and 37 assists. Last season in Ligue 1 alone, he registered 11 goals and 2 assists, operating in a team that rarely needed him to carry the full creative burden.

PSG won multiple Ligue 1 titles during his time at the club, and Barcola collected two Champions League trophies along the way. For a player who only moved from Lyon to PSG in 2023 for £38.5 million, his market value has appreciated at a rate most hedge funds would envy.

How the deal got done

PSG’s original asking price was reportedly £145 million. What brought them to the table at a lower figure was a combination of squad depth and pragmatism. With their attacking options strengthened elsewhere, holding out for maximum value on a player they were prepared to sell became harder to justify.

Liverpool’s negotiating team was not light on firepower. Sporting director Richard Hughes, CEO Billy Hogan, and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon all had roles in securing the agreement, alongside PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on the other side of the table.

The transfer makes Barcola Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing ever, sitting just behind the £125 million the club paid to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle in 2025.

What comes next for the squad

The ripple effect of the Barcola deal is already reaching Cody Gakpo. With the Dutch forward’s path to regular first-team football potentially narrowing, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have both registered interest.
