About AUSD

Acala Dollar (aUSD) is a decentralized, crypto-collateralized stablecoin issued by the Acala Network on Polkadot, soft-pegged to the US dollar and backed by multiple collateral types. It is the core stable asset within Acala's DeFi ecosystem and across connected Polkadot and Kusama chains. The Acala team and foundation built the stablecoin protocol, and aUSD went live for minting on February 9, 2022, initially accepting DOT and LCDOT as collateral. aUSD is not a standalone blockchain token. It is issued through the Honzon stablecoin protocol, which uses multi-asset collateralized debt positions, on-chain governance, and algorithmic mechanisms to hold its soft peg to one US dollar. The token (ticker AUSD) is used as a medium of exchange, unit of account, and source of DeFi liquidity for transactions, lending, and borrowing within Acala and on bridged networks. Acala's separate governance and utility token, ACA, has a fixed maximum supply of 1.6 billion tokens and handles protocol governance and economics. aUSD functions as Polkadot's native decentralized stable asset, allowing stable-value activity across interconnected chains.
