About Arweave
Arweave is a decentralized data storage protocol designed to store information permanently on its network. Sam Williams and William Jones founded the project in 2017; some sources also credit Ahmed Al-Balaghi as a co-founder. The network launched on 8 June 2018, when 55 million AR tokens were created in the genesis block. Arweave uses a blockweave data structure and a proof-of-access consensus mechanism, a modified form of proof-of-work that requires miners to demonstrate access to previously stored data. Its native token, AR, pays for data storage and transaction fees and rewards miners for storing and serving data. AR is not used for staking. The maximum supply is capped at 66 million tokens: 55 million were minted at launch, and the remaining 11 million are released gradually as block rewards. Arweave is primarily associated with permanent file storage for archival content and the permaweb, a collection of decentralized applications and pages built on the protocol.
